Purpleheart - Dip-Pen Blank
Purpleheart (Peltogyne porphyrocardia) is an unusual wood from Central America. When freshly cut the wood is a chocolate or pinkish-brown colour but on exposure to the atmosphere (particularly sunlight) it turns a vivid purple.
Finishing a piece with a UV blocking finish such as melamine lacquer can keep the vivid colour for longer. The wood is quite hard and dense, with some blunting effect on tools.

The price qouted is for a single pen blank.
Each blank is approximately 19 x 19 x 200mm (0.75 x 0.75 x 8"), ideally suited to dip ink pens.
The ends of the blanks are dipped in grain seal to reduce the chance of damage while in storage.
