a goncalo alves pen making blank

Goncalo Alves - Standard Pen Blank

Gonçalo Alves (Astronium fraxinifolium) is a dense light-gold to red-brown coloured wood from South America. It has a close grain with fine dark markings.

The wood is heavy and dense which does make it difficult to work, but the fine texture allows it to be polished to a high sheen.

(Note: Tigerwood and Gonçalo Alves are the same wood, it is just that some timber exhibits the classic 'Tiger' markings, and although these blanks may not have these markings, it is still a very attractive wood).

The price qouted is for a single pen blank.

    Each blank is approximately 19 x 19 x 145mm (0.75 x 0.75 x 5.75").

The ends of the blanks are dipped in grain seal to reduce the chance of damage while in storage.
